Sayu Bhojwani, President and Founder of New American Leaders, issued the following statement in response to reports of the Trump administration’s promise to unilaterally end birthright citizenship:
“Suspending birthright citizenship is blatantly unconstitutional and is nothing more than a cheap, transparent ploy to stoke anti-immigrant sentiment ahead of the midterm elections next Tuesday. The 14th Amendment’s guarantee of citizenship is very clear: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States.” On November 6, we will remember to repudiate these hateful, xenophobic actions at the ballot box.
