Sayu Bhojwani, President and Founder of New American Leaders, issued the following statement in response to the mass shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA and President Trump’s tweets following the massacre:

“Our hearts go out to the entire congregation at the Tree of Life synagogue as they deal with this horrific tragedy, and we stand in solidarity with those in the Jewish faith.

“This incident does not exist in a vacuum. It comes at a moment when our elected officials, including the President, have promoted the language of racism and anti-Semitism and condoned dehumanizing speech targeting political opponents.

We strongly condemn those who continue to foster hate and division and demand our political leaders end their violent, racist, and anti-Semitic rhetoric. Provoking violence against marginalized groups of people in this country cannot be accepted and goes against the principles of democracy and humanity. Let this serve as a reminder next Tuesday that we need leaders who will stand up against hate groups.”
