NEW YORK, NY Today, the Supreme Court heard arguments on a series of cases against Trump’s attempt to terminate Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), which protects approximately 700,000 ‘Dreamers’ from deportation.

In response to the hearings, New American Leaders Founder and President Sayu Bhojwani released the following statement:

“Trump and his administration have repeatedly tried to rescind DACA for one reason only: to further their white nationalist agenda. There has never been any legal or moral reason that could excuse the revocation of DACA.

“DACA has allowed over 700,000 New Americans basic rights—to pursue higher education, to work without fear of exploitation, and to obtain driver’s licenses and other essential documents. They are Americans in all but one way. Removing protections for Dreamers—who are our children and our future—is cruel, heartless, and unjust.

“The Supreme Court once again holds the future of Dreamers in their hands. Yet as we urge them today to honor our country’s uniquely immigrant heritage by protecting this crucial program, our fight to protect undocumented Americans will not stop on the court steps. Our New American movement is working to expand protections for the millions of undocumented people who are not covered by DACA, create more pathways for permanent legal residence, and dismantle ICE. Our nation and democracy depend on it.”
